Absenteeism dings both the student’s chances for success in both education and life as well as the school’s ability to meet student hours for state funding. Families across the state deal with difficulties due to work schedules, distance, bullying, finances, learning differences, and more when it comes to meeting attendance requirements.
The 2025 Texas Legislature established new state education codes that opened the doors for bringing trained mediators into the school to help parents/guardians, school administrators, and the students together to work out real solutions that meet their education goals. The past year has been a proving ground for various schools and school districts as they made strides in keeping these students in school and out of truancy courts. For many kids, it’s the lifeline they needed to make a change they could commit to and get them the support they needed.
We offer the specific Truancy Mediation training for mediators and many resources for the mediators who want to pursue this line of work in their communities across the state.
